My name is Alex Stewart, and I am a first year SLP Masters student. I am in a Fluency course currently, and I was very interested in our discussion about potential “malingering” patients. I was wondering if any of you have come across malingerers during your time of practice (or known other professionals who have) and how you or your colleagues have approached this situation (as in, how did you evaluate that their stuttering wasn’t genuine, what further steps did you take, etc.). I’m also wondering if malingering is a rather rare phenomenon or how frequently it does occur. Would appreciate any reflections or further resources on this topic!
Thank you very much for lending your expertise!
