Hi, I’m a graduate student in Speech-Language Pathology. I am curious about using dopamine blockers as a pharmaceutical treatment for stuttering. I am interested in knowing the long term effects of using these prescribed drugs as a treatment? It seems as if this treatment would only be a quick fix because the individual would still need an abundance of counseling, therapy, etc. to help treat the psychological aspects. Is this new treatment on the rise? Are there any other drugs being used currently to treat stuttering?
