  1. Hi – good question.

One of the things I found that was really not productive was to gave to read aloud (while the clinician counted stutters, which I really hated).

The clinicians always chose something that I thought was ridiculous. Several student clinicians chose the same passage for me to read, about Rainbow Colors. I felt so silly reading it. I couldn’t figure out if that particular passage was required through their class.

I finally got the guts to tell her/them that I didn’t want to do it. I suggested that I read from an age appropriate popular magazine. That felt much more comfortable. 😊

    • Hello Pamela,

Thank you so much for this powerful response!

I plan to become a Speech language therapist and I find your response extremely informative. I’m taking a fluency course with Dr. Tsao, and her focus in the course is to do no harm. She also emphasizes for us future clinicians to listen to the PWS and learn from them!
I can take this information and apply it one day. I’m so glad that you spoke up and that they were able to switch therapy for you, and more importantly, that you felt comfortable!
